YogaPlay™: Private and Personalized
YogaPlay is designed specifically as an approach to teaching yoga, and exploring developmental movement patterns for children of all abilities. Therapeutic movement sessions are tailored specifically to the child's individual needs, using the movement practices of Yoga, Pilates, Body-Mind Centering, and Creative Dance.
Parents are encouraged to help their children repeat the YogaPlay practice exercises throughout the week to facilitate the familiarity and integration of new developmental movement patterns.
Other aspects of a child's development can be addressed and affected through a YogaPlay session, such as psycho-emotional issues, behavioral management, boundary setting, verbal communication, and one-on-one social relationship skill building. The primary assessment, approach, and evaluation for each child will be created through an exploratory movement session.
YogaPlay helps children to:
- explore gross motor skills
- practice developmental movement patterns through obstacle courses and repetitive sequencing
- increase body awareness, self esteem, and behavioral skill-building
- modulate movement, breath, and physical energy
- balance inward and outward attention
- socialize with each other in positive, mutually supportive activities

YogaPlay is a semi-structured movement playground that provides guidance for both parents and professionals. When working with children of all abilities, there is an underlying quality that fully engages them …and that is PLAY. YogaPlay is a creative, interactive and holistic approach to supporting the abilities of all children using traditional asana postures, animal and developmental movement, and the rhythm of the natural breath cycle. Body-Mind Centering® principles can have profound effects on how children learn to know themselves, perceive others and interact successfully in their environment. Alisa’s understanding of these principles deeply informs her approach to yoga with children. Creating and supporting the growth and development of children in an organized and playful setting requires total acceptance, respect, and care of the whole child. In this environment they can naturally develop new relationships and skills, and expanded choice making can emerge. Enjoy the children.
